In A Duet, this tension is exposed through dance. Ballet is the beloved mother and despised father of the Western dance tradition. In the piece, the performers fight ballet and ballet fights back. However, the aim of this battle is not to defeat each other but to elevate each other. The ballet forces the performers to search for the essence of the classical worldview, while the performers challenge it to speak with a voice of the present day. Witnessing this endless battle, the audience is invited to reflect on their personal and societal role in defending, destroying or neglecting tradition and its relationship to today.

In contemporary Western society, more and more people are radicalising their relationship with tradition, either by blindly following it or by claiming to destroy it. A middle way no longer seems desirable. How can we rely on tradition while remaining critical of it?
